Bicycle Beat began in 2014 on Drottninggatan in Stockholm, with Johan on saxophone and Mårten on drums. One day Mårten forgot the stand for his snare drum. Luckily Johan had come by bike, and he had an idea: “Mårten, why don’t you try using my bike as a drum stand?” The snare went on the rear rack, and the bicycle became an instrument and gave the band its name.

In 2015 Björn walked by with his saxophone and stayed, and Johan took the bass part on baritone sax. The trio plays house, hip hop, jazz and Balkan on a bicycle, scrap and two saxophones, in the streets, at festivals and in schools.

Ten percent of the tips from their street gigs goes to people who need the money more.
